Before I take off for West Africa in a couple of weeks, I wanted to revisit and update an old post on my website kweiquartey.com titled My Top Ten Ghana Scenes. This is the new Top Ten. All pics are mine unless otherwise stated

Independence Arch, Accra (Image: Fotosearch)

The arch was built to mark the Ghana's independence from Britain on March 6, 1957. As far as I know, there is no through way for cars underneath the arch!

The Pagoda-style Balme Library at the University of Ghana

Named after David Mowbray Balme, the first principal of the then University of the Gold Coast, the library was constructed in 1948.

Low tide at Ezile Bay

Ezile Bay, featured in my novel MURDER AT CAPE THREE POINTS, is an ecolodge/ecotourist site in Ghana's Western Region, which has some of the best beaches. EB features delightful bungalows and chalets at amazing prices.

Labai Beach is most popular on Sundays, with music, horse rides and food.

The shore at Cape Three Points Village

This is the village located at the center peninsula of the three that project into the sea and give the area its name, Cape Three Points.

Adome Bridge, Volta River, Ghana

The Adome Bridge was opened by Ghana's first president, Kwame Nkrumah in 1957. It's the country's only arch suspension bridge.

Dixcove Bay, Western Region

The colonial British named the bay Dekyi's Cove, after Nana Dekyi who settled his Fante army in the area. However, the British couldn't handle the ky in the name Dekyi, which is pronounced "CH" as in church. So the name became Dickie's Cove, and then Dick's Cove, and finally Dixcove.

Elephants at Mole National Park, Northern Region

Elephants are always the star of the Park, but there are Buffalo, Kob, Western Hartebeest, Roan Antelope, Black and White Colobus Monkeys, and many other other mammals, plus numerous species of reptiles, birds, and butterflies.
