This is Dora Maar another of his lovers.
Pablo Picasso was born this day, 25 October in 1881. A Spanish painter, sculptor, printmaker, ceramicist, and stage designer who spent most of his adult life in France. A turbulent life with many women and children. As one of the greatest and most influential artists of the 20th century, he is widely known for co-founding the Cubist movement, the invention of constructed sculpture, the co-invention of collage, and for the wide variety of styles that he helped develop and explore. Among his most famous works are the proto-Cubist Les Demoiselles d'Avignon (1907), and Guernica (1937), a portrayal of the German bombing of Guernica during the Spanish Civil War. In this image: Pablo Picasso watches the filming of his life story in Nice, France, on July 26, 1955. Henri Georges Clouzot, seated, is producing the picture. Picasso's daughter Maya is at left.
Kind of fascinating
Cara - Tuesday
"Kind of fascinating"? Is that referring to Pablo Picasso or Cara Black? And is it opinion or fact? Since you post on Tuesdays, why don't you write about Belgium? (Oblique movie reference...)
ReplyDeleteThese are the questions that keep me awake at night.
ah EvKa Picasso is the fascinating one.
DeleteI remember if it's Tuesday, it must be Belgium.
Cara, a lot of people, it seems, judge Picasso by his treatment of his women, which certainly was not always up to gentlemanly standards. To me, whatever he was as a man, as an artist he was an absolute genius. Has there been an artist every since him who was not in someway influenced by his work? Thank you for that image of his portrait of Dora Mar. I saw it years ago in an exhibition. What a powerful thing it is.
ReplyDeleteThanks, AM! Maya is still alive and evidently a handful. Dora Maar lived a secluded life until her end in the same apartment Picasso bought for her near his studio where he painted Guernica. Evidently she'd kept everything he'd given her, even matchboxes with scribbles.
ReplyDeleteI think he lived to spawn explosive creations...and Maya is but another example of the various genre in which he worked.
