Your Greece, Your Path

 Saturday–Jeff

It’s summertime in Greece and life simply doesn’t get any better than that. If you’re an island person pick any Greek island and you’ll find magic there; but if for some reason your choice should not meet your mood or expectations, simply jump on a ferry and head to a different island for, of the more than 6000 Greek islands spread out across the Aegean and Ionian seas, 227 are inhabited.

For those who prefer a different experience, Greece’s mainland awaits you with a cosmopolitan Athens that’s the new toast of Europe, soaring mountains, deep valleys, breathtaking shorelines, fertile plains and ancient villages and sites––all peppered with locales steeped in classical history attesting to times when they served as the playgrounds of the gods.

But don’t take my word for it, this week the Hellenic Tourism Organization (GNTO) released a new video featuring the enchanting landscapes of Greece and historical landmarks. The video was created in collaboration with Netflix including clips from Netflix popular shows and series such as “Maestro in Blue,” “A perfect story,” “Beckett,” “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery” and “Lighthouse Lesvos.”

Here's the video.

It’s your Greece, and your path. Hope to see you somewhere along it soon.

Don't You Love It When Good Things Happen to Good People

Greece National Tourist Organization Secretary-General Andreas N. Fiorentinos

Jeff––Saturday

I’m in a dead zone for internet service on the captivating island of Naxos.  My predicament leaves me little chance of posting the extensive blog I intended to put up celebrating the appointment of my friend Andreas Fiorentinos as the new Secretary General of the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO).

In other words, I’m cutting out any mention of the many difficult issues he faces and simply repeat what Minister of Tourism Olga Kefalogianni had to say about Andreas in announcing his appointment:

“Andreas assumes his duties bringing with him many years of experience and expertise in the field of tourism and administration.

“Born on Mykonos, he has dedicated his entire professional life to tourism, particularly as a hotelier. He has held several significant positions, including Deputy Secretary General of the GNTO (2012–2014), Vice President of the Hellenic Chamber of Hotels, and Secretary General of the Hellenic Hoteliers Federation. For nearly 20 years, he also served as president of the Mykonos Hoteliers Association and until recently, led the tourism sector for the ruling New Democracy party.”

My only addition to the Minister’s words is to mention that throughout those years Andreas has remained a solid friend and stand-up guy. He is the right choice at the right time for steering the Greek National Tourist Organization.

Congratulations and smooth sailing, Mr. Secretary General.
