Same Face, Same Race...Different Landscape

Jeff—Saturday

October 12th has always meant Columbus Day to me, perhaps because I grew up in a largely Italian neighborhood. A shout out to you, Sis.

This year, friends invited us to join them at their home in southwestern Tuscany close by where Umbria meets up with Lazio. It gave us the opportunity of celebrating the big day in the old country though, not to anyone’s surprise I’m sure, Columbus Day isn’t celebrated in Italy.  Still, in this part of Italy today happens to be the festival day for welcoming the beginning of olive harvest.  We’ll be headed there shortly.

It’s said that Greeks and Italians are “Same Face, Same Race,” and each language has that same phrase.  But as similar as they are, Tuscany has a unique captivating beauty.  Here’s just a portion of what we’ve seen—thus far.

  1. Wonderful! Enjoy your visit. Is it time for Kaldis to be called in to help on an international case as well. . .perhaps one rooted in Tuscany??

    1. MAJOR APOLOGY FOLKS. I somehow missed all of the comments for last week's post, and as you know how much of a stickler I am to immediate responsiveness, I have no excuse other than to blame my frenetic weekend of four separate flights to get back to the US and a mail function that sent all MIE comments into JUNK--no editorial comment intended. :) Anyway, I shall not let it happen again. Jackie and Joel, you're absolutely right about Kaldis coming to Tuscany...the plot is hatching!

  3. My brother, I would complain that you are making me homesick, but I will be there in a couple of months. Besides, you will be in my NYC home in a few days. I am planning a Tuscan meal. Bring hugs.

    1. YOU are the embodiment of Tuscany in life, style, and--of course--cooking. Thanks for easing us back into NYC, sis.
