Jeff—Saturday
With so much of the US enduring unbelievably cold, snowy
weather, I wanted to present a different view of what’s out there. My daughter,
shoveling out from 16 inches of snow, and my farmhouse—enduring a week of
subzero (Fahrenheit) weather without me to keep an eye on its pipes—may not
appreciate this, but I feel it my duty to share. Besides, I’m hard at work on book tour… and
that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
Not Arizona |
Here are scenes from the Boyce Thompson Arboretum state
park, Arizona’s oldest botanical garden, located about an hour east of Phoenix
in Superior, Arizona. I loved it. Mainly because it struck me as
unstructured…unlike many botanical gardens that come across as just too managed
for my tastes. But of course, that’s a question of aesthetics. I also liked the
fact that the hike up along the trail was only a mile and a half, but that’s
just a matter of laziness.
And you sure can’t beat the weather. OUCH…I feel those
daggers.
Welcome to Boyce Thompson.

I also love deserts. The Kalahari is one of the most remarkable areas in southern Africa. Really an example of less is more. You should come see it some time.
ReplyDeleteWE TRULY WANT TO. And were talking about it as we walked through this park. Now to get to the stage of doing.
DeleteBeautiful, Jeff. Not my favorite habitat, but beautiful none the less. And besides your photobomber, the surroundings aren't bad either...
ReplyDeletePhotobomber lends beauty to whatever frame she graces.
DeleteFantastic photos!! I'm with you on most botanical gardens - I prefer something a little wilder and less tamed - but this looks like it would be right up my alley too. Looks like an excellent hike!!
