Being the world's worse proofreader, the line editor is especially dear to me.

I did get tired of being asked over and over by the editor of Blood Tango about the odd word here and that was not standard Spanish. Having responded to several AuQs (Author queries) by explaining Buenos Aires slang, I finally gave up and started responding with "Trust Me." But MOSTLY, I appreciate editors. A LOT! After I'd thrown the letter against wall, stomped on it, and cursed loudly and often, I read it and realized the comments were on the mark and bettered the book greatly. Eleven books in, I still dread that "letter," though thankfully these days it's down to a half-dozen pages. And yes, I wouldn't dare put a book out without running it past my editor. It takes a collaboration to make a book sing--especially in a Greek accent.Jeffrey Sigerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00718317707555064653noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1990338437877873686.post-72213064465058776532020-09-09T09:51:13.113-04:002020-09-09T09:51:13.113-04:00I know exactly the feeling with the rewrites. On the one hand, I get excited when I get my notes back from the editor; on the other hand, as I do the edit, my stomach plunges as I realize, "Damn, this draft is total crap," to paraphrase Hemingway. With my latest, SLEEP WELL, MY LADY, the first line edit was so full of questions and sentence revisions, I was in despair. "Can I even write? Am I--maybe--really, really, mediocre?" But in the end, this kind of nitpicky editing saves the author from future grief, because it's better that the editor catches the errors than having your readers do it! Even so, some of my amazing readers still pick up the rare error here and there and I appreciate them letting me know so that the correction can be made for the paperback!Kwei Quarteyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00469765268067837660noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1990338437877873686.post-47792020019122460562020-09-09T09:20:39.431-04:002020-09-09T09:20:39.431-04:00I actually like the editing process, I feel that a...I actually like the editing process, I feel that a grown up is now in charge of my manic scribblings!Caro Ramsayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08499318515241879831noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1990338437877873686.post-22627311605221171782020-09-09T02:16:28.348-04:002020-09-09T02:16:28.348-04:00And i can't wait to read the finished product!...And i can't wait to read the finished product!Stan Trolliphttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12608236210727280695noreply@blogger.com
