Unfortunately, she lived before movies and radio and didn't get the international press coverage that Eva did. Eva's newsreel life gave Lloyd Webber and Rice a lot of material to work with.

It is also interesting that both women got to do so much traveling after they were dead. Evita wins on having the most bizarre post-death life.

The only thing I knew about Stroessner was his role as a supportive and welcoming host to Josef Mengele. Each must have seen something of himself in the other.bethhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17405199782450351160noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1990338437877873686.post-3063828355624270182010-01-18T16:10:59.871-05:002010-01-18T16:10:59.871-05:00Yeah, great post. I d...Hi Leighton, this is a truly fascinating post! I didn't know of Eliza, but she is surely much more interesting than Eva Peron!! You're right. I just did a wikipedia search of Eliza Lynch and found, interesting enough, that a book was published recently about her life by a former Irish diplomat Michael Lillis, who has been travelling in Paraguay over the last two decades on business. Due to his nationality, he was always asked for his opinion about Eliza Lynch during his travels in Paraguay, and he didn't even know who she was! He returned to Ireland to find that many of his countrymen were also completely ignorant of Eliza Lynch's life. So he researched into her life (both in South America and in Ireland), and became so knowledgeable about Eliza, that he wrote a book about her! I think it would make a great read.
Thanks for this fascinating article Leighton, it brightened up my day.nicola in parisnoreply@blogger.com
