My own little house further north has a tiny garden, but there's an espaliered apple tree that is still producing fruit, raspberries, and even a grape vine that, this year, has produced almost-ripe bunches of grapes!

How wonderful that your university showed such enterprise. And far better than allowing the fruit to rot on the ground.Zoë Sharpnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1990338437877873686.post-46646206685564121662022-10-17T01:57:01.502-04:002022-10-17T01:57:01.502-04:00Hi Annamaria. I have half a cup of blue-berries (frozen from our garden) on my home-made granola every morning, and have a fresh apple (also from our trees, right now, but alas from the supermarket most of the year) for lunch. I guess I'm good... :-)

I went to college at Oregon State University, which is an agricultural college (along with engineering and other pursuits). They have large swathes of land where they develop new breeds of produce, including apple varieties. I worked part-time at the on-campus food-service delivering food from kitchens to cafeterias. In the fall, all those apples from the "in development and testing" trees would be gathered by the students studying food production/etc. and they'd make cider from them in 55-gallon barrels, which they'd then sell on campus for $1 per gallon, as part of one of their classes. Buy a couple of jugs and sit it in your dorm room for a week or two, and you had wonderful sparkling cider.Everett Kaserhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12371555243187874414noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1990338437877873686.post-3623819636013448762022-10-16T11:54:36.528-04:002022-10-16T11:54:36.528-04:00Mouthwatering, Zoe!
