But that, I think has something to do with our political opinions in general. According to the well-respected Gallup pollsters, the percentage of Americans for stricter gun control has SUNK from 78% in 1990 to 55% today. I cannot explain that.
http://www.gallup.com/poll/1645/guns.aspx

As far as the Second Amendment is concerned, I think our founding fathers were in favor of gun ownership. I agree that that was a good idea in the 18th century. If we want to stick to that rule, I think anyone who wants to should be able to own the sort of weapon the founding fathers were familiar with: muzzle-loading muskets. I think anyone who wants to should be able to keep one. Under his pillow if he likes. He can hang the powder horn from the bedpost and keep the ramrod on his dresser next to his smart phone. But then again, look at Congress, look at our Presidential Candidates. It's a facts don't matter attitude, and politicians pay attention to those who do the hard work necessary to get people elected...or tossed out of office. The one-issue folks do a very good job of that, and that's why politicians listen to them. Nothing will change until those who care enough to get involved at local political levels do so. Organize, organize, organize. Otherwise, accept it and await the next horrendous tragedy which will surely come...and the next one....Jeffrey Sigerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00718317707555064653noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1990338437877873686.post-67003680890272398122016-03-18T10:34:21.239-04:002016-03-18T10:34:21.239-04:00Pandora's Box was opened long ago in the U.S. ...Pandora's Box was opened long ago in the U.S. with expected results. There are far too many guns to be able to be able to get rid of them and not enough national will to do so. Many days I am glad I don't have any children and that I am getting old so I won't have to witness all the tragedies yet to come.Jonohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18170214396483091419noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1990338437877873686.post-46835501925914024242016-03-18T00:55:48.288-04:002016-03-18T00:55:48.288-04:00I live in Oregon, where there have been a number o...I live in Oregon, where there have been a number of mass shootings, and there are plenty of folk who think increased gun control would be a great thing. Unfortunately, there's far too large a percentage of the population who's religion is guns and who's church is the NRA. If Sandyhook couldn't get this country to change course and modify the bloody Second Amendment, I shudder to think what massive tragedies will be required to do so. Yesterday I was an optimist, but it's much harder today.Everett Kaserhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12371555243187874414noreply@blogger.com
