Thanks for such a thorough discussion of ...Ah Kwei! Thanks for such a thorough discussion of yet another European's awful presence in Africa. Most people in the West know so little about Africa. I've always believed that calling Africa the Dark Continent was an appropriate way of depicting 'civilised' European behaviour there. The hatred by the Germans of black people started in what is now Namibia - the slaughter of the Herero people in the early 1900s. There is a fascinating and totally depressing book called The Kaiser's Holocaust by Casper Erichsen and David Olusoga describing this. My go-to book to recommend to Westerners who don't know much about Africa is King Leopold's Ghost by Adam Hochschild. And if you're looking for something lighthearted with a dark undertone, watch the wonderful movie Black and White in Colour set in West Africa when German and French garrisons eventually learn that their countries are at war.Stan Trolliphttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12608236210727280695noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1990338437877873686.post-62817415236931938282021-09-01T18:00:51.603-04:002021-09-01T18:00:51.603-04:00Kwei, I really appreciate your review of West Afri...Kwei, I really appreciate your review of West Africa and its colonization.
