You know what I'm talking about, one of those sessions where you stand up and say, "My name is [ ] and I get my gods confused."

Being the compassionate sort of fellow that I am, I thought I'd help out the confused and those who don't yet realized they're confused with this quickie list of Roman names (in parentheses) for the Greek gods mentioned in this piece: Uranos (Caelus), Kronos (Saturn), Zeus (Jupiter), Aphrodite (Venus), Rhea (Cybele), Gaea (Tellus), Hera (Juno), and Demeter (Ceres).

For those sticklers who wonder why I did not include Dione, the answer is because the Romans also called her Dione. Why? Because it's the female form for Zeus (pronounced dios). There, aren't you happy I cleared that up?

Sort of makes you appreciate a one God world. A lot less memorization required.Jeffrey Sigerhttp://www.jeffreysiger.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1990338437877873686.post-80165132547061084022012-01-28T16:29:38.286-05:002012-01-28T16:29:38.286-05:00Wonderful post. I feel much better being in such knowledgeable company. Then add the Roman gods - and I am totally confused. Please keep showing us family trees - that helps a lot.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
