Our lives as children changed as a result of that, for once the vaccine was declared effective, parents felt it safe to allow us back in the water--literally, because until then public swimming pools were considered verboten. I still carry visions of the "iron lung" that warned parents of the risks of polio. As a physician, I've seen one pediatric measles case and the toddler was very, very sick. Because of his moribund condition, we admitted him to hospital immediately. It broke my heart. They are in their 30s and 40s, so they benefitted from vaccinations and didn't have the diseases. And they have children!
I, alas, had nearly all of them, except polio.
But I was so sick with measles at 5 and chicken pox left me with scars. And one can get seriously ill from shingles from the chicken pox virus. And measles still kills children and can give one longterm health problems. So it's personally infuriating. It's ignorance about science and medical advances. And it's selfishness, not caring about other children's health.Kathy D.https://www.blogger.com/profile/18418720666849497808noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1990338437877873686.post-71605468637968178692020-08-19T23:55:06.147-04:002020-08-19T23:55:06.147-04:00😁 yep!😁 yep!Kwei Quarteyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00469765268067837660noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1990338437877873686.post-27503161917264312782020-08-19T17:35:07.451-04:002020-08-19T17:35:07.451-04:00Fascinating!
