Iceland Noir: I'm Baaaaack

Jeff—Saturday

Two years ago, practically to the day, I wrote, “I just love it here… I’ve never been to Iceland before, but I will be back. And back to Iceland Noir if they’ll have me.”

Well, they did and I am, to this festival of crime fiction set in Reykjavik organized by our own Yrsa Sigurdardottir, Quentin Bates, Ragnar Jonasson, Lilja Sigurdardottir, and Grant Nicol.

The town, the people, the ambiance, the nightlife, all create a sense of what legendary Berlin or Paris must have been like in their heydays, seasoned with a bit of old Amsterdam. Whatever it is, this place has all the right vibes, and it’s a joy to be back.

So, here are some photos I took this trip.  Annamaria and Zoë are here too, but I didn’t have the chance to catch them on their panels---because they go up after this goes to press, so you’ll just have to settle for photos of other folks in action.

And action there is, both in and out of the festival’s home at “Nordic House.”  The nightlife is just as vibrant as I recalled, and once again, the festival is a delight, filled with interesting speakers putting on their “A game” for a knowledgeable, appreciative audience.

Most surprising is that no one has yet asked me about the US Presidential Elections…yeah, right.

Enjoy the photos.

NOTICE and APOLOGIES:

I don't know how to say this, but the only photo that will upload from my hotel is this one of me indulging at Reykjavik's most famous hot dog stand.  Why that is I have no idea. Perhaps it got through because it's where President Clinton (alas, the only one) diverted his Secret Service team so he could try one...or two.

Whatever the reason, my sincerest apologies, but be assured there will be photographs of the experience coming from Annamaria on Monday.

  1. AmA's a steadfast, dependable friend, unlike some others who are more like hot-dogs on ice. I'll bet you ate the whole thing, too. At least tell us, is Anthony Weiner in attendance?

  2. I don't believe that an outdoor food stand in Reykjavik at the moment, with this wind chill, serves anything that is hot, Jeff ...

  3. Hear your next book is about immigrants to Greece, possibly set on Lesbos.

I know this story will be told well, with a lot of compassion and respect for everyone. Can't wait until it's published.
